Chevrolet will soon join the ranks of full-size truck manufacturers who have entered all-electric models into this ultra-competitive market segment. Chevrolet’s monster powerhouse won’t lose the horsepower and torque that have made it a byword for heavy-duty hauling among people in Bloomington for whom pickups are a way of life. Below, we’ve covered everything we know about the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV so far.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV model will be officially unveiled and go on sale in spring of 2023. The new Silverado EV will hit the market in two familiar guises, a work truck as well as an off-roading Trail Boss with all the power you’d expect from an industry leader in the trailblazing offroad niche. All that power will be generated by two electric motors which, in the top-line RST trim, will generate up to 754 horsepower (the WT trim is capable of delivering 510 hp).
The Chevy Silverado EV will hit the market running on a potent battery pack said to be capable of reaching 400 miles of driving range per charge. If you’re concerned that an all-electric pickup truck might not generate enough power, consider that the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and can haul as much as 1,300 pounds.
The Chevy Silverado EV’s range is rooted in GM’s new Ultium battery technology, which has been adapted to the Silverado EV with a battery pack that can crank up to 200-kWh. GM’s quick-charging capability (which comes standard) will supply 100 miles of full power in just 10 minutes. GM’s long-range plan to make a splash in the electric market is rooted in the Ultium battery, said to be approximately twice as powerful as Tesla’s widely admired power source..
Ultimately, the full lineup will include six trims, with the RST rounding out the list. The Silverado EV, which will come standard with all-wheel drive, is expected to accelerate to 60 mph in a nifty 4.5 seconds. There are still a lot of Chevy Silverado EV specs that we don’t know. However, Chevy has said that the most powerful Silverado EV models will be able to deliver 785 lb.-ft. of torque and 754 horsepower.
The Silverado EV’s tech sophistication includes the myChevrolet app, which will allow drivers to identify energy-efficient routes (including while trailering). Additionally, Chevrolet is using a Linux-based software platform, which should allow for more frequent (and faster) software updates.
