Chevy Key Fob Programming: A Step-by-Step Guide

Here are the steps on how to program a Chevy key fob:

  1. Manually unlock your door using your Chevy key.
  2. Ensure all your doors are shut, then insert the key into the ignition. However, don’t start your car just yet.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door, then turn your key to the “On” position. The interior lights and radio will come on, but your engine won’t be turned on.
  4. Turn the key back into the “Off” position, then turn it to “On” and right back to “Off” once again in quick succession (on, off, on, off).
  5. Release the unlock button.
  6. Once you release the unlock button, you should hear the door locks shift and then shift back. This tells you the programming sequence is ready to start.
  7. On your Chevy key fob, press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons simultaneously until you hear the shifting and un-shifting again. This tells you that you’ve successfully programmed your key fob.
  8. Re-insert the newly programmed key and turn it “On” to end the programming sequence.

No matter what kind of Chevy you drive, you can program it with simple steps. If you’ve got any questions about how to program a Chevy key fob, our dealers would be more than happy to help!
